Frequently Asked Questions #
What is the resolution of the screens in G05/SIML #
There are 5 screens, each is 1920x1080, so the total resolution of all the screens is 9600x1080, this is the resolution you should make your video if you want it to fill the whole screen.
How many speakers are there in G05/SIML #
SIML is a 12.2 channel system meaning there are 14 speakers, 12 of which are normal and 2 are subwoofers. The 12 speakers are arranged in two rings around floor and ceiling of the space with 6 speakers in each ring.
How can I connect all 3/5 screens to my laptop? #
Unfortunately the answer is probably that you can’t. Most laptops only have one video output, and each projector requires it’s own video output. This is why we have the dedicated PC in G05, it allows you to connect the video from your laptop and send it to any or all of the screens simultaneously. If you want to make and show content that fills all 3/5 of the screens, there are a few ways to do that, but most involve playing that content from the main PC in G05. Check out the Video section for more info about how to go about doing that.
Can I use a microphone in the space? #
Probably not. Most microphones are sensitive enough to pick up sound from the speakers in the space. Unlike a normal stage set up or a lecture hall, the speakers all face towards the center. This means there are no dead-zones where it is safe to use a microphone, wherever you stand there will be feedback. This issue is less problematic with contact microphones, and these have been used in the past with some success. We have used microphones in the space but only in the presence of a sound technician who can quickly respond to occurences of feedback so they don’t damage people’s ears or the speaker array.
